Every aspect of the Professional Leaning Tour that I attended in 2013 was exceptional. We were privileged to visit school where we not only interacted with students from a vast array of backgrounds but also teaching staff who generously gave of their time so that we could share our experiences. We enjoyed wonderful professional conversation at a teacher training centre and were particularly impressed with the educational philosophy at the heart of Sri Lankan education. Aside from these professional opportunities the trip was designed to give us a broad taste of the beauty and cultural of this tiny pearl shaped nation; art, religion, economics, history and geography. Travelling with Sri Lankan born guides who were passionate about sharing their knowledge and love for country made the experience even more special. Every meal, every personal interaction, every conversation was steeped in significance. This trip was a joy to participate in.

The study tour provided a fascinating insight into the geography, history and culture of Sri Lanka. From the surf beaches and the port of Galle to the lush tea plantations in the mountains, Sri Lanka provided a wonderful tapestry of sensations. We delighted in the colourful markets, the spice gardens, the fishing villages, whilst enjoying warm hospitality and sensational range of local dishes and fresh fruits. Everywhere we went we were greeted by the wonderful Sri Lankan smile and friendly faces making us feel welcome.Highlights included climbing the Lion rock at Sigiriya, the stunning pre Christian ancient art in the cave temples at Dambulla, the late afternoon elephant safari at Minneriya National Park, as well as the visit to the elephant orphanage at Pinnawala. Our experiences were enhanced by our extremely knowledgeable guide who constantly kept us informed about the fascinating history, religions, culture and politics of the country, as well as answering our many questions. Travelling with our Sri Lankan tour leaders added to the depth of our experiences and provided many insights into the Sri Lankan way of life and customs. As a couple, one a teacher and one a non- teacher we both enjoyed our experience immensely and would thoroughly recommend this tour of Sri Lanka, a country of which we had no previous knowledge. We found the visit rewarding, educational and fun, the hotels and food were all first class.
